Mix Tape: Kuning "LAGU RAYA MIX"

とある日の出来事でした。
Kuning Peningさんにありがたくもインスタフォローされ、何気なく彼のプロフィールを見てみたら、写真もおかしいしどこの出身の何者なのかも分からないし、彼のストーリーにアップされる国籍不明のPVのクリップの断片の数々が気になって気になって仕方なくなり夜も眠れない日々が続いたので、ある夜、彼にメッセージを送ってみたのです。
すると彼はマレー人という事が判明、彼の職業も作る音楽も面白い、という訳で、インタビューとMix Tapeリストをお願いしてみました。見た目もセンスもパンチがあるので、今後の彼の行く末が気になる次第であります。

One day, Kuning Pening followed my instagram, and I checked his profile and it was really interesting, I mean, I couldn’t guess where he is really from, and all the particles of PV that he posted on his story on instagram were really interesting… I just wondered where they were all from… and I kept wondering and wondering, so I decided to email him and asked him about himself, and also make a mix tape selection for gallomo…. and here it is!

- あなたの名前を教えてください。

皆僕のことをKuning Peningと呼ぶけど、本当の名前じゃないんです。強いて言えばジーンシモンズやボブディランみたいなノリかな。はい。皆にKuningと呼ばれています。

- 出身はどこですか？

バトゥ洞窟です。マレーシアにある場所です。最近こっちは雨ばかり降っていますが、雨が降っていなければ晴れ晴れとしています。

- お仕事は何をなさっているのでしょうか？

実は、政府で働いています。政府職員としての仕事は大好きです。まぁ、政府職員はそんなにパンクロックではないけれど、仕事自体はだ〜い好きです！

- マレーシアの音楽シーンはどんな感じですか？

OKって感じです。僕自身も、バンド活動をしていました。バンド名は Think!Tadpole!Think!でした。マーク・ノップラー風に表現すると、僕らのバンドはきっとトランペット演奏入りバンドなんだと思います。僕のバンドのことは大好きです。実は、僕は沢山の所謂”Facebookバンド”をやっていて、それはソーシャルメディアでしか存在しないバンドもあれば、全く存在しない架空のバンドっていうのもあります。マレーシアの音楽シーンは大きくないけど、進化してきています。こちらのカルチャーもOKっていう感じですかね。わたしはMalayまたは”Melayu”（マレー人という意味）であって、マレーシアのポップカルチャーが大好きです。最高なんですよ！

- マレーシアで生まれ育つのは、一体どんな感じでしょうか？

僕の両親はとても保守的でしたが、そのスタイルを貫いている両親のことを愛しています。 僕はマレー半島で生まれて、アラブ人ではありませんがイスラム教徒でした。へへへ。この土地で成長するのは、他の場所で育つのと基本似ていると思います。僕は、沢山のアニメを観て育ちました。こちらのローカルアニメで、” Usop Sontorian”というアニメがあって、それはKamping（いわゆる村）に住む子供達の物語でした。子供達のクルーのリーダーはUsopという名前で、ハゲで髪の毛が4本生えているのみです。このアニメでとても良かった部分は、出てくるキャラクター達の動きが限られている上に速度も遅く、グリッチ感がある所でした。最高なアニメですよ！

- 幼い頃、どんな音楽を聴いていましたか？何に一番影響を受けましたか？

小さい頃は Amy Masturaの曲を沢山聞きました。それ以外では、マレーシアのポップミュージック、 KRU、 NICO、4U2C、Feminin、Freshies、Res2、ELITE、A to Z、2 by 2などの、主にマレーのポップグループでした。

- ポップグループの名前がなんとも言えない感じですね。それでは、マレーシアの音楽のミックステープリストを作ってもらえたりしますでしょうか…？！
お気に入りの曲やバンド、昔または最近の曲、ポップまたはアンダーグランド、何でもOKです！

もちろん！マレーシアのHari Rayaのソングミックスを作ってみました！
Hari Raya（ ハリラヤ）とは、 マレーの人々が断食月の終わりをが祝う時のことで、ラジオでは素晴らしきRayaの歌がこれでもかというほど流れ続けるんです。

- What's your name?

People call me Kuning Pening. It's not my real name. Like Gene Simmons or Bob Dylan. Yeah. Peeps call me Kuning.

- Where are you from? 

Well, I'm from Batu Caves. It's a place in Malaysia. It's been raining a lot here. But if it's not raining, it's all sunny.

- What's your job?

To be honest, I got a job in the Government. But I love my job as a government official. It's so not punk rock, but I love it!

- What is like the music scene there?

The music scene here is ok. I was in a band myself. We called ourselves Think!Tadpole!Think! (CHECK EM OUT!). We played what Mark Knopfler refers to as a “trumpet playing band”. I love my band. Actually I have loads of “facebook band(s)”. It all existed on social media and some are non-existed (physically). The music scene here is not big, but progressive. Culture here is ok. I’m a Malay or “Melayu”. I’m obsessed with the Malaysian pop culture. It is awesome!

- What was it like growing up there?

My parents are conservatives. I love them for that. =)
I was born Malay, Muslim (I’m not even an Arab). Hahaha! Well, growing up here basically similar to growing up everywhere. I grew up watching lots of cartoons. There’s this local cartoon that I really love called “Usop Sontorian”, and it’s a story about kids living in the “kampong” or we might call it the rural part of town i.e village. The leader of the pack is “Usop”. A bald kid with only four strand of hair on his head. The best part is that the movement of the characters and stuff in that cartoon is so limited and slow, like there’s a glitch going on. Rad cartoon!

- What kind of music you liked when you were younger? What did you get influenced by the most??

I listened a lot of Amy Mastura when I was younger. Apart from that Iistened to a lot of Malaysian Pop Music, mostly from Malay Pop Groups, like KRU, NICO, 4U2C, Feminin, .Freshies, Res2, ELITE, A to Z, 2 by 2, and many more.

5. Could you make a malaysian music mix tape list?? Your favorite songs and bands, old and new, pop and underground, anything is good!
